What's actually in a date
Depending on the variety, a dried date is roughly 60-70% sugar by weight, with several grams of fibre per 100 grams — more than most dried fruit. The potassium content is high enough that dates are often mentioned alongside bananas as a potassium-rich snack. None of this makes dates medicine. It is closer to what you would say about any good dried fruit, with a shelf life and portability that make it easier to keep on hand.

Stuffed with almonds or cream cheese, chopped into oatmeal, blended into energy balls, or eaten plain with coffee. Dates also work as a sugar substitute in baking: a paste made from soaked, blended dates can replace refined sugar in most recipes at close to a 1:1 ratio.
